CGDent members to have comprehensive, exclusive CPD & ePDP package with ProDental

The College of General Dentistry (CGDent) and ProDental CPD have signed a partnership agreement to co-develop exclusive content, and to offer CGDent members a comprehensive CPD and e-PDP package.

Established in 2008 and with over 30,000 users, ProDental is the UK’s largest independent provider of online dental Continuing Professional Development, and members of the new College will have immediate on-demand access to its library of over 350 online courses and recordings – totalling over 900 hours of certified, GDC-compliant CPD, all accessible on PC and Mac, and optimised for mobile as well as tablet and desktop devices.

College members will also have access to a bespoke online personal development planning tool (e-PDP) to identify and log areas for future learning tailored to their job role and aspirations, guide and record their CPD activities, and link these to the GDC’s development outcomes and the CGDent’s future ‘Career Pathways’.

CGDent and ProDental will also be co-producing two webinars a month from July to discuss, and field questions on, subjects of interest to the general dental team – including the College’s guidance and standards publications, the papers and themes of its quarterly Primary Dental Journal (PDJ), and events to support the Career Pathways.

Topics to be covered in the second half of 2021 include the guidelines on antimicrobial prescribing, selection criteria for dental radiography, and clinical examination and record keeping, as well as upcoming PDJ issues on paediatric dentistry and on urgent dental care during COVID-19.

For CGDent members, these webinars will be free to watch live or on demand, and come with certified CPD hours. Non-members will be able to access these on a pay-as-you-go basis, however for a limited period following the launch of the new College, the CGDent webinars will also be made available live to all dental professionals, with ProDental subscribers also able to access the recordings and CPD hours.

CGDent opens its doors to all registered dental professionals on 1 July, and will be the first independent college and only professional membership body in the UK specifically for primary care dentistry. As well as PDJ and the new CPD/e-PDP package with ProDental, other membership benefits announced to date include post-nominal letters and discounted Dental Protection fees. Dental professionals can keep up to date with new membership benefits as they are announced by signing up to the CGDent newsletter at cgdent.uk/college-newsletter. Registration of interest in joining the College of General Dentistry is now open at https://cgdent.uk/join-or-upgrade.
