Before entering the award:
CHECK THE PHOTO REQUIREMENTS >
We strongly recommend that you watch this intraoral photography guidance video and read the award entry guidance before submitting your pre-op photos.
For your case to be accepted into the competition, your photographs MUST:
- Be taken on a camera with the correct date and time settings.
- Be high-resolution Jpg files, max 3MB each.
- Correctly depict the four clinical views specified below:
- Face on retracted view.
- Left lateral retracted view.
- Right lateral retracted view.
- Occlusal view of the arch being treated.
We appreciate that if your case is a trauma case, taking all these photos may not be a priority – one view of the teeth involved with and without a retractor and an occlusal view and radiograph just showing the affected tooth or teeth will suffice.
In addition, to support your case, you may also include any of the following but they are not essential:
- Face on, left lateral and right lateral views without retractors.
- Smile view.
- Full face view.
Photos that do not adhere to these criteria will not be accepted into the competition. Click here to see examples of photos that are NOT acceptable.

GAIN CONSENT>
You are required to gain the consent of your patient before entering the award, as well as gaining the consent of your Educational Supervisor. In addition, we ask you to gain the following consent:
Patient consent to publish photos>
If you are one of the winners, we would like to publish your pre-op and post-op case photos, to celebrate your success.
Please seek your patient’s consent to publish the case photos now, in case you are successful. We will only publish photos of your patient’s mouth (not full face).
The College may publish the photos on our website, social media, and possibly in the Primary Dental Journal (print and online). The images may also be published in other professional journals.
Educational Supervisor’s consent to publish name>
We publish the DFT/DVT details of the award winners, including their Postgraduate Deanery region and their Educational Supervisor’s name.
To ensure we have all the correct permissions in place, we ask that you seek your Supervisor’s consent to publish their name now, in case you are successful.
