Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry
Delivered by the College of General Dentistry
Restorative dentistry is a key skill for practitioners, whether you are working in an NHS, private or mixed practice. And with growing awareness and demands from patients for aesthetic dentistry, studying with the College will give you the advanced techniques and clinical expertise to offer an enhanced, contemporary service to your patients.
This postgraduate programme will enable you to deliver a recognised standard of restorative and aesthetic dentistry. So whether you want to enhance and extend your current clinical skills, are looking for a gateway to progress to specialist training, or to provide evidence for contracts to deliver a specialist service in restorative dentistry, this course is for you.
Both the postgraduate certificate and diploma will be delivered through the College, but are designed, developed and delivered by the team responsible for the programmes previously successfully delivered over many years by FGDP(UK). You can therefore be assured of their high quality of content and teaching.
Throughout the programme, we use blended learning to transform conceptual understanding into practitioner-based skills. This programme uses the latest techniques in restorative dentistry whilst embracing the importance of aesthetics and a minimally invasive approach. Our courses are designed and run by renowned clinicians using evidence-based practice, so you can be assured that whether you are a recent foundation dentist or an established general dental practitioner you will be able to immediately apply learning from the programme into your practice with confidence.
This is a progressive programme, offering you the flexibility to adapt your learning to meet your needs and circumstances. The Diploma runs over two years, and provides comprehensive foundational learning in the first year, providing the tools to critically appreciate the theory of restorative and aesthetic dentistry. The Certificate in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry will be awarded on successful completion of year one. It will complement your work- based practice through a series of face-to-face sessions, virtual study days and regional tutorials that have been designed to embed the learning acquired to progress to the Diploma year.
Year two builds on the learning base and will develop your techniques and your skills in restorative treatments with a more hands-on approach.
The new capabilities that you should be able to demonstrate includes:
- Occlusal reorganisation and splint therapy
- Direct restorative placement of composite resin and the management of advanced tooth surface loss
- Smile design and optimising anterior aesthetic cases
- Comprehensive management of the partially dentate patient (fixed and removable prosthodontics)
- Implant rehabilitation
- Advanced endodontics including apical surgery
- Accepting restorative referrals
- Advanced periodontal treatments including crown lengthening surgery, periodontal surgery and muco-gingival surgery
