Become a College Certified Membership Facilitator

We are inviting dental professionals to play a key role in the delivery of the College’s new Certified Membership scheme, as a Facilitator.

You may have experience of mentoring or coaching dental colleagues, but there has never been such a structured, purposeful scheme as this – designed to support dental professionals in their career development.

We want to support them in making the right career choices for themselves, whilst demonstrating their commitment to delivering effectively for their patients. Certified Membership of the College provides that support.

Our Certified Membership scheme brings to life the Career Pathways which are underpinned by the Professional Framework, describing the knowledge and skills expected of primary care dental practitioners at each stage of their career.

As a volunteer Facilitator, you would play a central role in the scheme.

What’s involved in the Facilitator role?

The fulfilling role of Facilitator is unpaid but is recognised as a contribution toward achieving Fellowship of the College, provides a fantastic opportunity for networking through the College and is your opportunity to support the development of others in your profession.

To enrol as a Facilitator, you will be expected to be able to evidence past training and experience in formal coaching or mentoring.

The first step towards becoming a Facilitator is to take part in our Facilitator training scheme which is delivered online in two parts, with a CPD certificate available on completion. You are not required to make an absolute commitment as a Facilitator to participate in the training but we hope you will be inspired to become part of this ground-breaking programme.

As a Facilitator, you will meet twice a year by mutual agreement with each Certified Member you are assigned to. Using the Professional Framework, you will support them in mapping their career development, helping to plan and document the staged acquisition of the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours required to fulfil their professional ambitions.

Their Certified Membership status will aid them in their journey, offering formal recognition of their capability at each stage of their career, demonstrating their commitment to professionalism and high standards of practice, and signifying their dedication to further professional development.

Who can apply to be a Facilitator?

To be a College Certified Membership Facilitator, you must be enrolled as a member of the College, and have prior training and experience in mentoring/coaching.

For the initial phase of the scheme, we are recruiting dentists to the role, however, we would be delighted to hear from all dental professionals. We plan to launch Certified Membership for the full dental team in early 2023, and your support will be crucial.
