Opportunities

Get involved in shaping your College

The aim of the College is to enhance the development of the dental team and foster excellence and confidence in oral healthcare for all. Through our governance structure, a range of opportunities are available to get involved and help the College fulfil its mission:

Trustee

Our Board of Trustees comprises both registered dental professionals and independent members from a variety of professional backgrounds. Both are central to the effective delivery of the College’s mission, contributing to its custodianship and supporting the development of a future Royal College for dentistry. Vacancies arise periodically and a role description is available on our Trustees page

College Council member

The Council, elected from within the membership, guides the Trustees on the development of the College to serve patients and the dental professions across general dentistry. Fifteen seats are elected from within geographic constituencies, and four represent dental team roles. One or more elections to seats on the Council are typically held each year as members’ terms of office expire. Nominations are typically sought early in the year, with elections in the Spring. Two Vice-Presidents are also elected annually by and from within the College Council. Expected term-ends, and role descriptions, are available on our Council page

President

The President of the College chairs and represents the College Council and provides leadership across the profession. Working closely with the Chief Executive to deliver the College’s ambitions, they are accountable to the Board of Trustees and are appointed from within the Membership for a non-renewable three-year term. A role description, and the term-end for the current Presidency, are available on the Council page

Faculty Board member

The College has four faculties representing the distinct professions within the dental team. Appointed Faculty Boards support the Council in developing career pathways for individual roles and contribute to the wider work of the College in standard-setting and other areas. Appointments are made periodically; further information and a role description are available on our Faculties page

Faculty Dean

Each faculty is led by a Dean, who serves a non-renewable three-year term. Expected term-ends for the current Deanships can be viewed on the Council page, and a role description can be found on the Faculties page
