About the Academic Court
The Academic Court has been established to provide a forum for those who have made significant contributions of an intellectual nature in support of the College’s founding purposes.
Succeeding the former FGDP Faculty Academy, the Academic Court recognises Members, Fellows and others who have served the profession and its patients by promoting high standards of care, and high quality postgraduate dental education, through the College or former Faculty of General Dental Practice at a national level. Appointments to the Academic Court are made in relation to specified roles.

This CGDent Midlands Study Club is organised in association with Rock Dental, a specialist referral practice. College members and non-members are invited to join an interactive study club and case discussion evening with their multi-disciplinary team.
This session is designed to provide a practical, clinically relevant approach to modern adhesive and aesthetic dentistry, focusing on principles that can be predictably applied in general practice. The first hour will explore core concepts including adhesion protocols, material selection, isolation techniques, and the fundamentals of achieving reliable bond strength. Emphasis will also be placed on aesthetic treatment planning, considering facial features, smile design, and shade matching to help achieve natural, harmonious, and long-lasting results using contemporary composite systems.
The second half of the evening will focus on case-based discussions, allowing delegates to explore real clinical scenarios, share experiences, and discuss treatment approaches with both general and specialist colleagues.

Dr Simran Bains AssocFCGDent qualified from the University of Manchester in 2017. She has been awarded postgraduate diplomas in both restorative and aesthetic dentistry (CGDent) and occlusion and veneers, and has a special interest in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, Invisalign, and the treatment of nervous patients. Nationally recognised, Dr Bains has featured in the Dentistry Top 50 (2023–2025) and has won multiple awards, including Best Young Dentist Overall and Best Young Dentist Midlands at the Dentistry Awards 2024, as well as Best Young Dentist 2025 by Probe Magazine. Widely published in the British Dental Journal, Dentistry Magazine, and Young Dentist Magazine, she also serves as Director of Membership for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Dr Aron Kandola
Since qualifying from the University of Bristol in 2017, Dr Aron Kandola has developed a special interest in cosmetic and general dentistry, as well as facial aesthetics. Dr Kandola holds a postgraduate diploma in restorative and aesthetic dentistry and a postgraduate certificate in primary care dentistry. She is an Invisalign Comprehensive Provider and a certified provider of Obagi medical-grade skincare. Dr Kandola is passionate about professional development and has mentored younger dentists and associates, helping them refine their skills and grow in confidence.

The Advanced Orthodontics course is a comprehensive, 120-credit, Level 7 programme leading to the award of the CGDent Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Care Orthodontics.
Delivered by IAS Academy, it is designed to give General Dental Practitioners the skills and knowledge needed to treat more complex malocclusions, including extraction cases, taking them up to just below specialist training level. It covers all appliance systems – fixed functional, aligners, lingual and Inman – and includes both the theory and practical aspects of orthodontic care.
In addition to lectures, students will discuss multiple new cases, participate in hands-on practical sessions and receive one-to-one mentoring by specialists for ten treated cases. The syllabus, which is delivered across six 3-4 day training blocks as well as weekly online planning discussions, includes:
Records, assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning
Treatment planning for Class I, Class II div1, Class II div 2 and Class III malocclusions
Radiography – Ceph/OPG/CBCT
Fixed appliances
Lingual appliances
Removable appliances
Functionals
Retention
Aetiology of malocclusion, growth & development
Development of the dentition and tooth movement
Dental material & biomechanics
Multidisciplinary care, including restorative, periodontics & surgery

This training block is specifically for candidates accepted onto the 2026-28 cohort of the diploma course and is limited to 12 places. To ensure enough case-flow and experience, the course is recommended for dentists who have treated at least ten fixed cases, are treating a minimum of ten orthodontic cases per annum, and are familiar with using fixed appliances.

This CGDent Midlands Study Club is organised in association with Rock Dental, a specialist referral practice. College members and non-members are invited to join an interactive study club and case discussion evening with their multi-disciplinary team.
This session is designed to provide a practical and structured approach to the diagnosis and management of tooth wear in general practice. The first hour will focus on understanding the aetiology of tooth wear (including erosion, attrition, and abrasion) and how to assess severity, monitor progression, and plan appropriate intervention. Emphasis will be placed on minimally invasive restorative strategies, occlusal considerations, and material selection to achieve predictable, long-term outcomes.
The second half of the evening will be dedicated to case-based discussions. Delegates are encouraged to bring their own cases to explore treatment planning options, share experiences, and gain insights from both general and specialist colleagues in a supportive environment.

Dr Prakash Parekh
Dr Prakash Parekh qualified at the University of Birmingham in 2007 and holds the MFDS (Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry. He has completed a Level 2 year-long course in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry and is a Certified Bioclear Practitioner. Alongside his clinical work, Kash has been an Educational Supervisor with Health Education England for over 11 years. He is passionate about sharing knowledge, encouraging high standards, and helping others grow in confidence.

This lecture will be delivered by Dr Tom Bereznicki FCGDent, a general dental practitioner and founder of the Tom Bereznicki Charitable Educational Foundation, which supports educational opportunities for early career dental professionals.
After graduating from Edinburgh, Dr Bereznicki worked as a house surgeon at Guy’s and The Royal Dental Hospitals before entering general dental practice, in which he has over 40 years’ experience. With a special interest in restorative dentistry, in particular occlusion and emergence profile, he was also a visiting clinical specialist teacher at King’s College London Dental Institute and later joined the teaching faculty for the university’s MSc in Aesthetic Dentistry. In 2018, he joined the Academy of Dental Excellence as a senior specialist teacher, and in 2021 became a partner associate lecturer for the University of Portsmouth’s Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry.
A former member of the FGDP and Founder Member of CGDent, he has been a Fellow of the College since 2022, is a regional speaker on occlusion for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and is a member of both the Faculty of Dental Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
In 2023, he founded the Tom Bereznicki Charitable Educational Foundation, with which the College has since collaborated on a number of initiatives for early career dental professionals, including:

This lecture will be delivered by Helen Kaney FCGDent, Head of the Dental Division at the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland, and a dually qualified dentist and solicitor.
Helen qualified BDS from Glasgow University in 1987 and spent many years in general dental practice as well as working as a clinical assistant in conservative dentistry and prosthodontics at Glasgow Dental Hospital and at Guy’s Hospital in London. She developed an interest in law and ethics early in her career and studied law, obtaining an LLB, and then trained and worked as a solicitor for several years, acting for doctors and dentists in clinical negligence claims, regulatory matters and Fatal Accident Inquiries (Coroner’s Inquests) on the instructions of UK indemnity providers. She has significant experience in advising and assisting dentists in the UK and Ireland and in several international jurisdictions, and spent 14 years at Dental Protection as a Dentolegal and Senior Dentolegal Adviser and latterly as Medico and Dentolegal Services Team Lead and Head of Dental Services, Scotland. She completed an MBA at Strathclyde Business School and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians. She served as an elected National Representative on the College Council from 2019-2025.

Dr Minas Leventis
Dr Minas Leventis graduated in Dentistry from the University of Athens in 1999, followed by an MSc in Oral Pathobiology (2003), a Specialty in Oral Surgery (2004), and a PhD in Bone Grafting and Growth Factors (2010). He has co-authored over 30 PubMed-indexed publications and continues to lead experimental and clinical research projects internationally.
Alongside clinical practice, he has been a faculty member at the University of Athens since 2002, lectures worldwide, and delivers postgraduate training in implantology and bone regeneration.
